I'm using 2D and 3D continuum plain stress element to investigate the bending behaviour of a beam in ABAQUS, but for CPS8 element (plane stress 2D or 3D) section curvature and section moment fields cannot be obtained. Does anybody know which element could be used in this regard or if the same element is used which technique could be employed to obtain the moment-curvature curve for a given cross-section of the beam.

I appreciate your reply, I find your paper interesting but I still do not my answer in it. I want to obtain moment-curvature response of a beam directly from Abaqus either directly using the "field output" option or indirectly by manipulating other outputs like strain and stresses.

the nodes of these elements have no rotation degrees of freedom:
- Couple all nodes at the end with a reference node.
- Apply the load (moment or rotation) on the reference node.
After the calculation you can plot (or print) the moment-rotation curve in Abqus/View (rotation and reaction moment on the same node).

the detailed coupling of the nodes depends on the considered boundary conditions. As a simple example, a beam with a fixed end and a rigid end is considered. The moment or better a rotation is applied at the rigid end. On the fixed end all nodes have no free degrees of freedom (fixed). At the other end, the nodes are coupled with a newly created reference node using (rigid) RB3D2 elements. The load is applied on the reference node.
