I have deposited nickel on stainless steel ( 1 *1 cm2) substrate by electrodeposition using silver/silver choride as a reference electrode,platinum as counter and stainless steel as working by using bulk electrode analysis at -0.7 V constant potential. Now how to determine the thickness of nickel deposition.Is there any formula which relates thickness ,current and time of deposition?
In addition of Dr. Braun answer, you can use other method with similar complexity. If you weighted substrate before deposition, you can repeat this procedure after that also. Difference is mass of nickel. How to calculate thickness of layer, if you know density of nickel and substrates area, as well as additional mass?
Additionally is it possible to use physical methods, for example, acoustic, but it is better to proceed from what you have on site...
