We are working on the applications of compost to increase crop yield, for which we have prepared compost and analyzed the N content with in our compost. Then we want to determine the amount of compost required based on the chemical fertilizers (urea and NPS) equivalence ratio. so how can we determine the compost requirement with Urea and NPS fertilizers equivalent?
Organic N is determined by subtracting the inorganic N forms, NH4-N and NO3-N, from total N. However, because NO3-N levels are generally very low, total nitrogen minus NH3-N provides a good estimate of organic N in most composts. In stable, finished composts, most of the N should be in the organic form.
As partially decomposed organic matter, compost can have a range of characteristics. Compost can vary because of the raw materials used, degree of decomposition, moisture content, nutrient content, salt content, acidity/alkalinity and contaminants (organic and non-organic materials or heavy metals). Some quality measures such as carbon/nitrogen ratio, smell and particle size are indicative of some of the above mentioned characteristics or the effectiveness of the composting process.
The urea contain 46% Nitrogen and N in compost is less and lesser quantity of urea is needed as compared to compost.

It is better to use high quality raw materials to get qualified compost and at the end of your compost preparation (before utilization of compost) you have to be test the nutrient content of your compost with soil laboratory and make a calibration for your crop type and your farm requirement, you have to be concern on your farm and crop requirement not on other fertilizers
