As per the Indian standard codal specification strain in steel should not exceed 0.0035

But if u want to determine experimentally , then fix up the strain gauge on the structural member that u have casted and measure the strain by UTM.

Madam,

Strain = MY/IE for beam, 

Strain = (PL/AE) +(MY/IE) for column

M= Bending moment

Y= Depth of NA form extreme fiber

I= M.O.I

E= young's modulus

P=Axial load

L= length of column 

A=Area of column

Is this method correct ?
