You could define the secondary phase as fluid with properties of solid material. For calculations, only the density value of secondary phase would be considered and none of the other properties are used.

So, the this approach should work.

Abouzar Azarafza Patching can be done once the phase is defined. The problem is with defining the solid phase.

Rajesh Alayil Thanks for your answer. It asks for many properties including viscosity. And I think viscosity is something which differentiates solids from fluids. wont the solver be using viscosity in the momentum equation?

Hardik Mistry , True what were u are saying is correct.

But, since there are separate governing equations of each phase and the properties defines each phase. If you create a fluid with the properties of the solid (all properties which the software asks for) it should work, as these properties along with the volume fraction makes the difference in the equations solved.

Another option is to model using DPM multi phase models.

You are using the Eulerian approach for multiphase flow, so you are considering that you have different interpenetrating phases supposed fluids. For the solid phase, you can define it as a secondary phase. Generally Fluent allows defining the different characteristics of it by defining the different parameters referred to the KTGF ( Kinetic Theory of Granular Flow) .

Rajesh is right; you can either consider the second phase as a fluid with its own properties and characteristics or alternatively, you can employ DPM approach.

You should use DPM in fluent, DPM is prepared for solving interaction between soild particle and gas phase properly.

Hardik Mistry To add on, for solids momentum equations are not valid and it is only energy diffusion. So, if you are worried about the numerical instabilities connected with the solid modeled as fluid with solid properties; you may switch of flow in solids and patch a constant volume fraction after every iteration.

But, i strongly believe that is not required unless until you end up with numerical instabilities.
