Hi everyone, I am modeling 2D tunnel - soil interaction under seismic loading but I have problem in soil-tunnel contact. Soil is shell element and tunnel lining is beam element. I want to simulate a contact that can be occured slip and gap on interface? There are many type of contact elment in LS-Dyna and I dont know exactly which element I shoild use. Does anyone can help me? Many thanks.
I suggest you to choose the elements which is having compatibility with each other. Exam. beam and shell element is used to simulate the structure with bending and these elements are good for structural engg. point of view but may not simulate correct response of soil behaviour. To simulate the interfacial response of soil and tunnel, i suggest you to use any contunuum elements for both and it have element compatibility. For better understanding i recommend you to read the manual of the software. all the best..

Hello, Did you solve your problem? I have the same question. I would like assign an interface between soil (solid element) and concrete ( shell element). Currently, because i have merged the nodes of these parts, the software does allow slippage. How can I assign the interface to solve that problem? Thank you
