I am modeling infilled frame in TNO DIANA. For infill frame joint, i define interface using free edge, but i am confused that it will work or not. Because, when i apply load, load is transferred to wall but not in expected way (i.e. diagonal strut formation) and also force vs displacement response is also not looks good.There is convergence problem also. Can anyone please guide me to solve these issue?

To be sure if you are interfaces are in the correct direction, please check their local axis and compare it with the material properties. Note that the material properties are normally assigned to elements according to the local axis of them !

For infill frame interface i define interface (CSC) using free edge option. For my wall only three sides are attached with frame as shown in attached files. I change the local axis as shown in file but now also i think, it is not working in expected way. Can you please explain more about local axis and comparison of it with material properties?

For example, assume in your material properties you are defining the properties of the interface elements in a way that they are acting in shear in X direction and in tension in Y direction. Now, as generally the material properties are assigned to elements according to their local axis, if your interface elements in your model have a local X axis in direction of tension, then you are assigning the shear properties to the tension direction. Is that clear?

You need to check the diana documentation for that. Generally the normal stiffness is when the interface works in tension, the tangential stiffness is when the interface works in shear. Now, you need to check the local axis of your interface elements in the model and check if the X-direction of all your interface elements is in the same direction. Then check that this X-direction should be in direction in which you expected a shear deformation.
