You are right, sometimes we face sophisticated fraud methods using modern devices and methods, it is difficult for room monitors to track their impact, of course for each case study and presented to specialized committees and lead in many cases to separate the student altogether or several quarterly courses.

I think applying the penalties can be used but for the long term, education on ethics is needed. The educational institutions should create the environment in which all know that academic integrity is a core value and is taken seriously by the institution.

Need to punish student that cheats (if you are sure of it) so that he/she will not repeat. He/she should fail exam, period.

I agree with what came in the question that the phenomenon of cheating is not educational, and the results that students get degrees in the exams in in twisted ways so take legal action against those who prove cheating and taking the necessary precautions to prevent it

You are in front of two solutions:

Either ignore the student during the case of fraud in the exam and talk with him after the exam and advise him not to do this thing again

The second solution

To apply the instructions to him and to direct the appropriate punishment to him

cheating in the exam is nightmare and it is really annoying. I think the type of questions play role in this. some teachers use the questions as they are from the syllabus so the smart students will memorize the answers and the weak ones will cheat the answers. I suggest using the unseen questions. for example, I teach students how to write a for/against essay in writing and we have model in the book about mobile phones. in the exam I wo'nt use the same topic. e.g I might ask my students to write for/against essay about traveling by plane. in this case the should learn how to write not to memorize or cheat.

I think firstly to study the different ways of cheating to close the door leading to them, then I agree with all my dear colleagues above. Best regards.

In my own point of view, there should be an examination panel that can punish the student for cheating. Most importantly, each student should be allowed to evaluate their teacher at the end of each semester, to know whether they were rightly taught. If they were rightly taught, then the student needs to be disciplined. Otherwise, both the student and lecturer should face the rightful consequences.s

I think that this is a vast territory and although I have not looked into this myself it would be interesting to read some qualitative data on this. There are many reasons why a student may succumb to the temptation of cheating and maybe we shouldn't be so quick to apply a sweeping, generic approach to all who do it. Factors such as the rise of mental health issue in young people and complex socioeconomic circumstances can play a huge part in the reasons behind cheating. Gone are the days of student grants and wealthy families paying for their children's fees. Some students are working two jobs and many have children, many as lone parents. We must look at the cause, as much as, if not more than the consequences. I am not, in any way justifying cheating. But find the root of the problem and you won't need to keep containing the top. ,

We deal with the state of cheating in exams by activate the role of parents' councils in schools. The style of question paper is too much practical ,he or she does not dare to cheating in exams.

I would give a zero to a student on any item where cheating occurred and inform the college's chief academic officer of the infraction. If the student cheated more than once, I would fail the student from the class and again report the student to the chief academic officer.

Simply to expel the exam copy ! And ask the students if the same repeats , s/he may oust of the institution ! believe me, the result will be excellent by doing this. Cheating in the exam hall will be reduced by more than 95% (as I have the result) and the excellent thing you will get that,you will definitely get very outstanding performance of the students.

So, be serious and take serious action against the cheating in the exam hall to send your students to the reading table!

The phenomenon of cheating has a dangerous effect on the future of students. Sophocles stated that he would prefer even to fail with honor than win by cheating.

Cheating, though is a school level phenomena, is also related to the supra environment components within which schools are functioning. It could be described as the school level manifestation of the rent seeking political economy. It is apparently clear that cheating prevalence is directly related to the prevalence of corruption and where as inversly related to good governance and social morality. Hence, any solution to cheating should go beyond mere technical and school level measures and take such societal levels aspects as governance, democratization and social morality development in to account.

Elimination of cheating happens in the following way. Give five different exam problems, so that each student has near him 4 students with different problems. The examination could be solved in two hours and you allow them to write for almost one hour.Then, you give an A to the best student of each of the five plroblems. I have tried that for 35 years with success.

Cheating in examination especially in the school study remain common . However in such cases class teachers play an very important part to trend the student & also to keep the student in a well behaved manner . In the normal practices if a student finds copying or cheating in the examination they are certain school rules which take the necessary action for the students either by not allowing the student for further examination or by way of a less punishment deduct marks from his paper as a part of the punishment .With this behavior & trust for the student a student creates a quite good respect for the teacher behaving in the class or even in the examination befitting manner .

This is my personal opinion

This is a tough problem, and has many implications. One approach I have taken for UG chemical engineering classes is that I give the students a "practice exam" one week before the exam with 4-5 problems, and tell them that at least 2 of the problems will be on the exam which typically has 4 problems. I do not provide solutions to the practice exam, and students can come and ask me questions/clarifications about the problems on the practice exam during office hours. The point is if they can do all the problems on the practice exam then they are guaranteed 50% of the final grade. Even though I encourage students to form study groups, often 30% of the class fails the final(

If I find someone cheating in my class, I usually award the grade of "F" for the entire course.
