I need to perform balance beam test with my mutated mice and count the number of slips of the hind limbs. In my case, i use 20mm and 10mm diameters beam. When i performed the test with thick (20mm) beam, mice can walk with several times of slips. However, when i used thin (10mm) one, mice are difficult to stand, always with the hip touching the beam, creeping to traverse.
I tried to count the number of slips (the number of hind limbs below the beam) but because of that kind of postural their hind limbs are always below the beam and looks like slip from the beam every step. I am not sure whether in this case, the number is right or not.
So, in this case, do i need to change the thickness of beam or is there any other method to count?
Thank you.
