I need to perform enzymatic saccharification process for that i need to add cellulase enzyme. In the Ref paper everyone put as FPU. i dont know to convert FPU into mg. can anyone help with this?
Instead of using the FPU unit for measuring the cellulase activity, you can calculate its activity base on U/ml. In this way it is not necessary to measure the enzyme activity base on releasing of 2 mg/0.5 ml glucose in the enzyme solution.
The unit for enzyme (U) is a unit of enzyme's catalytic activity. 1 U (μmol/min) is defined as the amount of the enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 1 micromole of substrate per minute under the specified conditions of the assay method.
International Unit (IU) is defined as 1 mmol/min, based on the initial hydrolysis rate, and is different from FPU assay, which is a fixed conversion assay. The basis of the definition in IU is different from that of FPU.
Mina Karimi Avargani is correct, but the international unit is outdated. Under SI, enzymatic activities should be expressed in katal = mol/s, or a suitable fraction thereof (say, nkat).
