Hi all, I want to conduct an experiment of stability of different herbicides in soil as dependent on time. Now, I know that 1mg/ul (a.i) of herbicide in 1 kg of soil is equal to 1 PPM. my question is:
Do I need to take into consideration the amount of solution I'm diluting my herbicide in?
for example: Round-up (36% a.i)- 1 ul / 0.36 = 2.7 ul
I need to insert the 2.7 ul inside water in order to get a well irrigated sandy soil for sowing seeds.
So if I put the 2.7 ul inside 20 ml of water and then mix it in 1 kg of soil, do I get 1 PPM of Roundup in the soil?

my question was how to calculate the PPM and your answer was just calculate the PPM :-)
according to my example- does 2.7 ul of round-up (36% a.i) in 1 kg of soil will be equel to 1 ppm?
ppm can be measured by V/V , W/W , W/V or V/W, In this case it is V/W seems correct if the Specific gravity of Round up is near 1. otherwise it will be rationally deviate from the correct one.

PPM = mg/L water or mg/kg of soil. So 1 PPM is 1 mg of herbicide in 1 kg of soil. It doesn't matter how you put the herbicide in the soil as long as 1 mg goes in and the final total weight of soil is 1 kg :)
