In making Silicone 3D models, after curing, the final silicone product sometimes it turned out clear and the other times turned out opaque. How to control the level of transparency so it looks clear all the time?
The silicone based 3D modeling requires use of molds. If the surface roughness of the walls of the molds in which the silicone/elastomer is being poured has the dimensions comparable to the wavelength of the visible light, it will cause diffusive scattering of light. If one can get the roughness size to an optical finishing on the surface of the molds, it will always give optically transparent Silicone structures. You can simply try this using an arbitrary rough surface. Make silicone film on the surface as it is and another one a after applying a self adhesive tape/scotch tape. You will see a significantly large difference in the two results.
