I am getting ready to submit my protocol for a research project for my family studies program. I am investigating the relationships between two sub-constructs of psychological sense of community (PSOC) (McMIllan, 97, 2011)- affiliation (including emotional connection and belonging) and need fulfillment (basic human need - skills/knowledge). I have modified previous measures to assess PSOC, including the Neighborhood Sense of Community Scale, the Brief Sense of Community Scale, and the Sense of Community Index. I would greatly appreciate your assistance in determining construct validity for my survey.
I am unfamiliar with the instruments you refer to but I suggest you look at the work done by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Measuring Social Capital 1378.0, which includes measures of networking, relationships and related issues. Their aims are more macro population level but their research was thorough and if it matches the instruments you describe, it would provide support for the construct validity. http://www.abs.gov.au
