The following answer is the one I don't like it personally, because i didn't take into account the observed pattern in you non-zero part to save the time when entering the command. Nevertheless, it works, since the dimensions of your matrix is not large. You may wait for a clever answer.

Then create the matrix using the following command
A< - rbind(a1,a2,a3,a4,a5,a6,a7,a8)
