I am working on Mushroom diversity, especially on a morphological, biochemical and molecular characterization of wild mushroom. The objectives intended for an identification of edible and poisonous one. Previously I have collected from mushroom tissues from fields, but it has destroyed by insect or pest, Sometimes I was found that these types of techniques are not suitable for the collection of mushroom germplasm. So I am requesting esteem researcher for suggestions and overcome the problem.
I think, you may go for liquid preservation in the field and then oven drying at 70 degree for 3-4 hours. Please have a look of the attached files for more details.

I had used same for sample collection and preservation, same (water +formalin), but the purity of DNA is very less.
you test different dilutions of formalin/ water and you try different storage times (5mn in formalin, 30mn, 1h, 12h, 24h ....). May be your fungal material is damaged with a high concentration of formalin and very long time in formalin
