I have found that even though citations may meet the bibliographic format used, students may place several citations in parentheses to impress the reader, but if you actually read these articles, you realise that they may have little or no relevance to what the student is stating in the paper. Apart from the citation format, it is important to check the content of these citations with what is written in the paper to avoid misrepresentation of information.

There are two types of citations:

♦ Works Cited (at the end of your paper)

The works cited page lists all of the sources that you used.

♦ In-Text or Parenthetical Citations (within the paper)

In-text citations tell your professor which source you used at a specific point in the paper.

I prefer books , then papers and urls (least choice)

I try not to read too many papers (Sorry !!!) I like to have a deeper understanding and a theory is time tested . So my citations will be few :)

Coming to students, I trust them with what they do . So citations depending on materials read (they have to - no say otherwise) ...

Well, I train them so I trust them with my belief and working principles ...

Citing different types of references is very important as each type has its own advantages, and some readers prefer to access certain types of them more than others. For example, books provide a thorough overview of a topic, quality checked by publisher, usually well-researched, include references to other sources you can use. Journals include the latest research, up to date, cover very specific topics, quality checked during peer review process, list references used - good source for further research. Websites provide a quick access to information, and can be kept up to date easily. Reports provide a look at a topic in detail, often include statistics or research findings. However, it is not about number of different types of references, but choosing an appropriate source of information that meet your research needs.

In the case of published articles with D.O.I number, for citing those articles, what is the need to follow the earlier styles with page number , vol number etc ? The D.O.I number alone is sufficient ?

The DOI, is simply used to show that this article or paper has been indexed, and it is not sufficient to mention it as a reference and you have to the classical method of citing taking into your account the slandered manner of your proposed journals.

Yes. DOI will help correctly find the article that was cited.

But the description of the document should be given completely and according to certain requirements + DOI.

I think recent papers are better than the books.

Citing journal maternal from high impact factors journals should be the goal.
