I intend to remove low pass thin film optical filter from borosilicate optical glass window.
Filter is almost 0% transmissive in the range from 200nm-420nm.
Starting from 420nm it is highly transmissive with T>95%..
I heard that due metal oxides used in VIS filtering films like that, special chemichall reagents should be used to its removal. Which reagents should I use causing no damage to borosilicate substrate?
Unless you know what kind of coating you have, it might be hard to pick the right reagent to remove the film without affecting the glass. Given the thickness of the filter, you can try polishing it off. In case it's an organic-based film, you can try to remove either with some DMC, if the coating is polycarbonate based, or try the brute force approach with a pirahna solution, it's quite aggressive, but should not affect the oxide glass. If your film is a metal oxide, then it gets trickier, but you can try a strong base, such as KOH/IPA (or even KOH), although that will also eat away at your glass, but that is generally a very slow process, which is why it's used to clean lab glassware with little damage.
