Please refer to Section 2.2 of my paper, where we comment something on that regard. The amount of pixels/um will not only depend on the camera but on the whole imaging system you put in place for your test (lense, distance from object). I advise you to take sample pictures of a reference object/pattern with known dimensions using the actual settings of camera, distances, lenses, etc that you will use in your tests. Afterwards, using any image analysis software like ImageJ or even Photoshp/Gimp you can measure the actual amount of pixels of the given known dimension. With that you can establish the conversion factor pixels/um.

Hello Faisal,

The camera and DIC analysis resolutions are two different things (albeit still related). The DIC algorithms can detect subpixel displacements down to 1/100 px by means of interpolation of the image data. The final resolution also depends on the analysis parameters (subset size, spacing,...).

Hi Faisal,

It depends on the field of view. You need to take sample pictures from the existing camera and lens assembly. Lens may be used to get finer length scale. The sample picture should be analyzed by Image J or adobe photoshop. Measure pixels along the horizontal and vertical directions and scale that with your field of view. This would help in getting resolution in pixels/micrometer or any relevant units. Hope this helps!
