I have synthesised Copper(I) amino alcohol Complex, i want to characterize that copper complex, even How to confirm its valency state is that Copper in (I) or (II) state?
Do NMR for your complex, from that you can find out Cu(I) or Cu(II)! because Cu(I) only active in NMR and Cyclic voltammetry also can help you...........
color of the complex is first indicator. Green to blue is Cu(II), while white to light brown indicates Cu(I). But if you have mixed oxidation states then it is complicated. NMR will not work, epr will show some bands but will not tell you if bulk is Cu(I). In this situation magnetic susceptibility will give better information. Uv-vis is best if you can interpret properly
First of all you can do ESI-MS analysis of the in-sutu Cu-complex and if your complex contain unsaturated ligands, you can check UV-vis absorption spectra of both ligand and complex. To confirm the oxidation state of Copper, I think best way is to do Electron Spin Resonance (EPR) analysis.
