I used ICP-MS for Pt quantity (wt %) in catalyst PtCu. I digested 0.20 mg of sample in 2 ml of HNO3 and made up volume to 100 ml with dist. Water. From the 100 mL solution, I took 10, 20, 50, 100 and 150 ul of solution and makeup with 10 mL volumetric flask and used for analysis. Moreover, I used 50, 100, 150, and 200 ppb standards of Pt. How to calculate weight % of Pt? Kindly provide your valuable suggestions. If any further information required, please let me know. For your reference I attached icp-ms results please check the same and suggest me. Thank you.
Dear , First of all HNO3 alone can not dissolve Pt , so you must use Aqua Regia , and it is only recommended for Pt based samples. U must use in concentrated aqua regia to dissolve Pt and then you can use filter to filter out the sample. now dilute the sample , because its is really damaging for ICP-MS to use concentrated acid. i guess the permissible acid concentration is 2 percent. use the dilution factor while calculating the weight percent. your machine will probably give you result in ppm (mg/l). convert mg/l to g/ml as your basis are in grams and ml for simplicity. and you will get weight of sample. just simply calculate
weight percent by diving weight of sample you added in aqua regia.
Anand Parkash First you have to choose the proper method for digestion, in your case I would recommend to use aqua regia + HF. Then put the specified weight with the acids in a Teflon cup and screw it very well and leave it on a hotplate over night and then turn the hotplate off and leave your sample to cool for at least 6 hours then open the Teflon cup carefully and make sure that your sample is completely dissolved then filter very well and complete with dis water till a specified volume. The concentration you got from ICP-MS depends on the range you are working with (maybe in ppb or ppm) then use this equation
Pt(mg/kg or ug/Kg)=given conc(from ICP-MS)*final volume/initial weight

AQUAL REGIA IS 3:1 HCl and HNO3. then dilute that to 2 percent with C1V2:C2V2

I have did ICP-MS to know the concentration of Pt, I used 5 mg of sample and dissolve in 2 mL HCL: 7 mL HNO3, after complete digestion, I made 100 mL solution and I used this solutions without diluting it. I got 39.1 ppb from the ICP-MS machine. Kindly tell me how to calculate weight % of Pt?
