We are working on CFD simulation of hydrokinetic turbine. we are using MRF (multiple frame reference) modeling and calculate torque in CFD fluent software with z- direction has the axis of rotation. whether the torque calculated from CFD fluent is fluid torque or is it the torque of the shaft for the given flow velocity of fluid.
For torque calculation whether 6 degrees of freedom must be considered. Kindly clarify in this regard.
The question is not well posed. However, if you mean to calculate the torque at the impeller shaft this is an easy task. You can use both the existing macro in the Ansys Postprocessing module called "torque_rot.axis@bladesurfaces " or made your own by integrating the torque of the stresses acting on the blades' surfaces. You can use Torque method and Viscous Dissipation Method. The second one may be better for your problem.

we are giving speed as the input and calculating torque in z axis for 3-d model. whether the method we are following is in the correct direction. the torque is calculated in the axis of the rotation of the shaft. kindly suggest.
