when a flat-end cylinder, such as Si, is compressed into soft metals, such as Al, sidewall contact between Si and Al occurs. How to estimate the sidewall contact pressure applied to the Si cylinder?
A follow-up question is, imagine the Si cylinder is already compressed into Al with a large depth, now we pull the Si cylinder out of the Al. In the pull-out process, how to estimate the sidewall contact pressure applied to the Si cylinder?

it would help to have more details on the actual thing you trying to simulate. In general fem modeling will allow to have hollow concentric cylinders, with temperature gradients, to include compression combined with friction surface elements for the pullout. Need to calibrate your model against know pullout experiments/numerical solutions,
