Is there any formula to know the sample size in descriptive cost analysis study

Depends on what your outcome of interest is.
i) Prevalence of catastrophic costs or ii) median / mean costs.
If former, then may use the sample size for a descritpive study where the outcome variable will be summarized as a proporiton.
If the latter, then may use the sample size for a descritpive study where the outcome variable will be summarized as a mean.
