The goal should be to interact with the academic community, not maximize your score. Keeping the scoring system closed prevents us from being able to easy game it.

So, please do not worry about your score. Just engage with the community. Ask interesting questions. Provide insightful answers. Recommend interesting material. Post your papers. Just take advantage of the social network and let the score do its own thing.

The RG Score measures scientific reputation based on how your work is received by your peers. RG Score is calculated based on any contribution you share on ResearchGate or add to your profile, such as published articles, unpublished research, projects, questions, and answers. RG algorithm looks at how your peers receive and evaluate these contributions, and who they are. The higher the RG Scores of those who interact with your research, the more your own score will increase. A low-quality contribution probably won't attract positive feedback and recognition from the community, so it won't contribute to your score in any significant way.

I think publication in high impact factor journals trusted by Clarivate Analytics database indexes is a big deal more than keen on elevation the RG score. The score could be increases by answering the questions for the scientific community and citations of your published work by other researchers

Madhu Bala, that's not necessarily correct. Last week I wasn't as active as the week before. Reads, etc went down. But my RG score did continue to go up. While continued decline in activity would likely reduce your score, aggregate activity does seem to be important.

My score has been stuck for months now. No matter what I do, it never changes, and it is still lower than colleagues with fewer papers, fewer citations, less reads, less everything. Really disappointing.

Francesca, the RG score is not just a measure of your publications, which is probably why the total research interest score was added. It also includes your engagement with the RG community.

I looked at your profile. You have asked zero questions and only made four comments, including this one. A score that measures your total interaction with a community shouldn't be that high, if you don't actually interact with the community.

Dear Daniel, Thank you for your feedback. I never thought it should be high for sure, but people with zero interactions have 1.8 or 2!! That is why I really do not understand. Then, from RG they say it changes every week. Mine has never ever changed.

Do they have more citations? It's really a complicated question. But I think if you're really concerned about your RG score, do try to ask some relevant questions, give some relevant answers, recommend interesting work, etc. Basically, interact with the community. Recommendations are also a big factor, I think, and you only have 23, so people don't seem to be engaging with your work.

Because I only "publish" on platforms like RG, OSF, etc, I link to my "preprints" a lot, and that does seem to help get additional recommendations. But also, if you interact with the community, through asking solid questions and giving solid answers, there's more chance for getting recommendations ("likes").

And I should also point out my previous response was recommended four times and my RG score jumped about 0.4 points. Does it mean I'm a better researcher? Certainly not! So I encourage people not to worry at all about the score. Write an interesting paper instead. Your score will probably decline because your efforts would be appropriately devoted to the paper.

RG score isn't a measure of how good a researcher you are. It's a measure of how engaged you are in the RG community. Research Interest is a more focused metric for well, interest in your research.

I think it's actually worse than that. I jumped from 27.78 last week to 28.2 this week. The only real difference is that I systematically answered some questions and some of my answers were recommended. Did my answers draw some folks to my research? That's hard to say but it seems to me that these recommendations of my answers mattered more than my research. My citation counts have been gradually declining but my RG score is climbing. I need to go write a paper....and get off Research Gate. More of my answers have been recomended; so my prediction is that by next week my score will be 28.4.....let's see. Absent any real information from the company, we are reduced to hypothesis testing (gasp!) :) Peace!

...And so my hypothesis has been supported; science in action in real time! There were five recommendations of my recent answers and three more people followed me on RG. Now my score is 28.41....and I did not publish any papers since last week. By all means recommend this answer and I'll hit 28.5 by next week.

Declan J. Mccabe, the RG score is a measure of your activity on Research Gate. Research Interest is more of a measure of what your research is doing. That's not really surprising.
