How to calculate GAC electrode area for CW-MFC?

I am working with an integrated CW-MFC (constructed wetland - microbial fuel cell) reactor having stainless steel mesh buried into a 2 cm thick GAC (granular activated carbon) layer. How can I find the effective anode surface area for determining power and current density?
