The integral of the event function/number at risk is the cumulative incidence. The increase of events/time interval has to be divided by the number of the reduced starting number at risk/time interval. Within a big population with rare events and short intervals You may follow MANOOCHEHR's practical advice to suppose a stable number at risk as divisor.
