Plagiarism is avoidable in every section, if we write in our own words, re- phrase and cite. Let's be happy to acknowledge all the researchers who have worked on the topic before we came along. Thanks.
You have to use your own words to describe a specific concept or may be change the structure of a sentence by converting active voice to passive voice,
Use quotation marks for short lifting, use hanging indent for long quotation, correct references as per citation standard, Text of other's writings not become a common knowledge, Use of in text citation in text (that is in body of knowledge) Moreover use API citation style guide.
Introduction - It is really hard to begin a paper - the most challenging part of the paper to write. This part sets the theme and objective of the paper which attracts attention of the readers to go into detail of the work.
Generally, introduction includes research background, , literature survey, present problem, research questions and attempts.
Read literature and write important points (with citations), then finally you start writing in own words - better not to see any paper now.
Please read at least 10 references in your own words and then summarize what each of them is saying with regard to the subject matter and then merge the summaries into one
One can avoid plagiarism by not lifting several sentences exactly from other authors. You use their articles but rephrase their sentences and cite them.
I just received the same question from one of my new postgrad students. He is currently preparing the literature survey. My answer was:
You don't have to worry about the plagiarism if you follow my instructions. Read recent publications in each topic. Summarize the main idea, method, and outcomes of each of them. Then write a technical report based on your summaries such that the used references are well cited and listed in your report. If you have to copy a figure or type data from a source, just cite the source within the text and at the end of the title of the figure or data table.
