You need to ask whether you must sterilize the soil. Sterilization can change soil structure and the lack of other microorganisms is a significant artifact when evaluating the effect of an antimicrobial that might be degraded in the presence of soil flora. Also: does it need to be soil, or can it be a soil-less medium? What measurement are you going to use to evaluate the population of pathogen in soil? A lot depends on what pathogen you are studying.

I think methodology to carry out the experiement that you posted is fine. But first you need a chemical and biological characterization of compost tea. Before to apply compost tea.

- what kind of soil do you have?

- what element, nutrients, microorganism, fenol, etc does your compost tea have?
