I want to buy a blue laser diode 445nm and drive it with a circuit that will provide it with reliable voltage and current and other electric conditions to help it last longer. Also I would require that it turns on and off with high speed.
I am no master in electrical engineering so if it gets very complicated I might not follow very well but I can do a good research when needed.
my aim would be driving 1.6w blue laser diodes with an input voltage of 5 to 6 v and constant wattage like the Osram diodes require.

Laser diodes are extremely sensitive to overcurrent through their junction. As a result of that they are extremely sensitive to static electricity. An overcurrent through the diode only picoseconds in length will create over-intensity in the light beam, resulting in destruction of the laser mirrors.
If you want to design (discrete or otherwise) laser driver, it is absolutely important to keep the diode current and the laser output power inside the safe operating area. If you dont, it results in immediate or short term (wear out effects) destruction of the laser diode.
To increase reliability, I recommend powering the laser from a stabilized current source. It will be very useful to supplement the means of regulating of the value of the stabilized current.
