I have the vegetation map (raster) as well as the DEM (raster) of a study area. I want to add elevation information to the vegetation map and create a 3D map of the study area using ARCGIS/ARCSCENE 10.8.2. I have seen this done using ARCGIS Pro. However, I am unable to complete the task using ARCGIS 10.8.2. Any suggestions?
Hey Shivakumar! You don't need to add elevation info to the vegetation raster. You can just make 3D model in ArcScene on the base elevation data and then overlay your vegetation map on it.
1. Start by creating a digital elevation model (DEM) for the area of interest using a cadastral survey and LiDAR data.
2. Utilize GIS software to rasterize the DEM, interpolating the elevation data. 3. Then, overlay the vegetation map with the elevation data in GIS software. 4. Finally, export the merged vegetation and elevation map as a 3D model with a 3D file format such as .obj, .3ds, or .dae. By creating a 3D model from the merged elevation and vegetation map data, you can then use a 3D application to visualize and manipulate the terrain for further analysis.

From site DEM (raster/grid) data create a hillshade layer. This should be simple (if not right click DEM in ArcGIS (any versions) and use properties). Then colour your shapefile vegetation type layer according to standard vegetation type colour codes. This should give a 3D visualization effect of your veg layer but on a flat map. If you wish to go advance then use DSM or as what Mr. Szypuła mentioned. Thank you and the best.
