I need to know the thickness in millimeter of the three layers (the
superficial layer including SZ,SGS and SO, the intermediate layer including SGI and SAI and a more deeper layer) of the human superior colliculus. Can you give me some reference or links about the thickness?

Hi, I'm unsure as to what species you are interested in. We have recently published a paper using human brain tissue fixed in formalin and processed for paraffin wax embedding (so some shrinkage can be assumed). The superficial (SZ, SO and SGS together) and deep (SGP and SAP) layers were approximately 1.5 mm each, with the intermediate layers (SGI and SAI) approximately 2.5 mm as viewed on coronal brainstem sections. However, the SC is thinner medially and becomes larger laterally, so laminar thickness will change.
The reference can be found in my profile (Erskine et al, 2017 Am J Geriatr Psych) and contains a detailed photomicrograph of the layers. Detailed anatomical images and connectivity in mouse can be found in my colleague's paper (Savage et al, 2017, J Comp Neurol). I would be happy to send a copy of either or both, if you cannot access them).

You said the superficial layer was 1.5 mm and the intermediate layers was approximately 2.5 mm.But I found a book (White, B. J., & Munoz, D. P. (2011). The superior colliculus. Oxford handbook of eye movements, 195-213.) said that the superficial layer was 1mm and this book didn't provide the thickness of he intermediate layers .what do you think?

I have just looked again at some of my images and, yes, the superficial and deep layers are possibly closer to 1 mm, however, there is some variation between individuals. The intermediate layers are definitely 2.5 mm, possibly even slightly more, though as I said the thickness of the layers differs based on where you look - my images are taken at approximately the middle level on the medial-lateral plane. The layers increase in thickness as one moves laterally from this point and decrease in thickness as one moves medially.
I will make sure to send you a copy of the paper tomorrow as I have just realised I don't have a copy!
