Suppose a nanocomposite of metal oxide with graphene or any other dopant creates a shift in UV-Vis absorption spectra, hence changing the band gap value (increase/decrease). which one is better (Red-shift OR blue-shift) and how?
Hello, the red shift leads to shift the peak to long wave length and caused the decreased in Bg of photo catalyst, hence, this behave shall enhance the photo reaction ( leads to increase it).Inversely, the blue shift shall depress the photo reaction.....
Peace be up on you, your question's readers and all RG members.
The absorption shift to lower wave length is called photo bleaching, PB or blue shift and the reverse behavior is called photo darkening, PD or red shift.
The absorption shift to lower wave length means the absorption shifts to higher energy which has a positive accompanied by high degree of order which increases other parameters like band gap, optical gap and crystallite size.
Red shift in absorption spectra of material will its increase ability to absorb more wide spectrum of light (more in the visible region) which can be useful in case of photo-catalysts and blue shift will do the opposite.
P.S. This is my first attempt to answer a question on research gate , Please correct if I'm wrong.
