I've been looking around to find something to tell me what will dissolve 1-octodecene? But I've not found anything real conclusive.
I did find something that said it was soluble in Alcohol, Ketones, et. all. What I'm interested in knowing is just how soluble is 1-ODE in 2-propanol, or Ketones.
I don't really have access to said chemical or otherwise I'd check myself.

It is stated there that 1-octadecene is soluble in alcohol, acetone, ether, and petroleum (insoluble in water). I assume that the term alcohol includes isopropanol. I hope this helps.

Frank T. Edelmann Thanks for taking the time to answer. The I ask is because triglycerides for example are soluble in isopropanol as well, however only slightly. Better still you can use acetone to dissolve them even better, but chloroform is the best. You don't get a good gauge as to how soluble is its with these solvents, and while is very non-polar it is also smaller than fat molecules so I was wondering if you get better interaction with solvents than you do with fat for example
I am aware that sigma milipore specifically says that it is soluble in alcohol but it doesn't give a good answer as to how soluble.
Thanks for the tip about spontaneous polymerization though. ~ I was actually looking into 1-octadacene for nanocrystal synthesis. Particularly how it compares to mineral oil or triglycerides with solvents.
The affinity solute-solvent determines the solubility and may be estimated by the aid of Hansen Solubility Parameters (HSP); Hansen C.M. 2007. Solubility parameters-an introduction. Hansen solubility parameters: a user’s handbook. CRC, Boca Raton, 43-66. ISBN 978-0-9551220-2-6.
As similar are the HSP of solute and solvent, more closer are one to other, according to the space distance between them, called Ra. Please, see the book for the formulae.
The HSP of 1-octadecene are δD=15.9, δP=0.9 and δH=1.5, while the HSP of 2-propanol are δD=15.8, δP=6.1 and δH=16.4; so the Ra=5.42. According to HSPiP software theoretical solubility in 2-propanol is 3.08% w/w at 25 oC. Nevertheless, you may test other solvents if you know the HSP of them and if Ra values is lower, the solubility should be better.
