Hi Chandana, That's an interesting question "shouldn't any leadership always have to be inspirational in order to be effective? Based on the transactional and transformational leadership (akin to inspirational leadership), not necessarily. Some "followers" may be inspired by transnational leadership. Furthermore, how "follower" are inspired vary significantly, for example if we have a look at Donald Trump, some are seriously inspired by him and others are not.
Hi Chandana, Good question. Allow me to expose what for me represents the inspirational leadership. The leader must set an example and be a reference to his team. The leader have to motivate and achieve that the objectives and goals are achieved by conviction and not by obligation. the leader have to recognize the success of each person on the team, identify talent and promote it. Other important leader role is to promote innovation and quality of the results and finally to reward the results achieved.

A recent research study (Zineldin, 2017) looked at transformational leadership and emotions theories and tested a sample of 128 leaders in Sweden. The main objectives of the study were (1) to determine which of the transformational leadershipstyles (TLS) are best at predicting effective outcomes (OUT) of extra effort by employees (EXE), leader effectiveness (EFE) and job satisfaction (SAT) and (2) to examine which TLS predict significant positive emotions (TEMO).
Results of the study reveal that TLS and most of the outcome scales (SAT, EXE, SAT) are positively and significantly correlated. Charisma (C) and idealized influence (II) are not correlated with EFE. The results further supported that inspirational motivation leaders behavior could produce greater amounts of SAT (r = .54**), EXE (r = .41**). Individualized consideration (IC) also generates great SAT,r = .42.
The study also found that only inspirational motivation (I) and intellectual stimulator leadership styles made a significance for TEMO such as being enthusiastic, hopeful, proud, happy, attentive, and inspiring with β = 26 and β = 17, respectively. Inspirational transformational leaders’ behavior and emotions are the most capable in increasing the organizational overall outcomes by boosting employees’ job satisfaction, additional effort, and effectiveness.

'Inspirational Leadership' here has been posited as a model which would bring desired results by bringing out the best. However, there is more to leadership then providing inspiration. Providing inspiration is a trait; a personal quality that is crucial for a leader while leadership is all about the practices. A successful leader needs to have several qualities, including being inspirational, while at the same time possessing essential knowledge and skills to carry out her responsibilities. Knowledge and skills include technical skills as well as contextual awareness.
