Hi everyone

Now I’m trying to find behavioral phenotypes of mice (hereafter mice X) with the elevated plus maze, but behavioral tests are new for me.

I followed the protocols described in preceding papers, and I didn't have any particular problems. Arms are 30 cm length x 5 cm width with ledge. Test duration is 10 minutes.

At first, I analyzed %entry and %time spent in open arms. There was no difference between control and mice X at all.  However, when I re-analyzed the data with some modification of parameters (distal 1/3 of the arms and 150-sec test duration), both %entry and %time of mice X were clearly decreased (There was a statistical significance in %entry). Total traveling distance was not changed.

In brief, it seems that the mice X tend not to go to the distal ends of arms at the beginning of the test…

And so I have two questions.

1) Is it acceptable to analyze with such distal ends?

2) How should I interpret the difference only at the beginning of the test?

I hope you will be able to provide the information.
