A local fault shapefile prepared by a public academic institution was required to complement a qualitative analysis. It was not possible to access a study or technical report documenting the data obtained, so the only reference is the file itself. How should it be reported in the references list?

To reference such a shapefile, you can cite the data source. You can get information regarding the date of production, the purpose of production and possible error(s) in the shapefile itself and other relevant information such as the project that produced the data. Also, the referencing format to use is essential however ensure you include the DOI and the web portal where you download the shapefile. I wish you the best.
