How can our education systems change/improve in order to avoid these trends - significantly increasing incidents of mental health issues for children as young as 10?

Mental health issues are a growing problem in schools, universities and they have no age boundaries. The greater problem especially in developing countries is the paucity of available interventions, researched data about mental health issues. Awareness is still linked to the cultural understanding which quite often pronounces itself on severe levels of the sickness and the spiritual interpretations to its etiology. Equally important is the lack of culturally validated instruments to evaluate the problems among individuals (students) on offset especially at the lower school levels. Students progress in their school career with such burdens up to university.

I would suggest that the schools employ more psychologists (ideally, one per class) to observe students from very young ages up (kindergarten onward) and suggest to teachers weekly and parents quarterly the possible psychological issues these students face. That way, problems are solved earlier rather than later.
Problems outside the school reflect into school mental health.
