How representative is the amplicon pool after PCR from a mixture containing a low percentage of mutant alleles?

If I start with DNA that contains a very low percentage of mutant alleles for my locus of interest, does anybody know if this percent composition is altered after PCR amplification? Amplification efficiency for the mutant and WT alleles are identical for my reaction conditions.

Theoretically it should not be altered if your amplification efficiency is *really* identical. How did you check this?
