I am a virologist dealing with reptilian viruses. For a publication about reptilian viruses and their co-evolution with their hosts I was looking at the Taxonomy Browser to find out the taxonomic origin of a certain species. Nevertheless, the classification there was completly new to me. How certain is this considered now? According to which publication(s) has it been set up? Really would like to find out more.

If you want a single website that can provide you information about the current classification of all extant reptiles, I would recommend you to use the Reptile Database (http://www.reptile-database.org/). It is regularly updated with the latest taxonomic changes, and each species account provides the correct names and authors, as well as the subfamilial and familial classification, and useful literature references.
