My rosettes ( 2 weeks old) are going to start vernalization (4 C ) tomorrow, I am planing on keeping them there at least a month. How often should I water the plants under these conditions? Should I leave the tray with 1-2 cm of water like I do in the 23 C room?
My experience, with Arabidopsis thaliana long term exposure to 4°C, is that once a week, or even less, should be enough.
Thanks Tamara. They lyrata and thaliana are fairly similar, I will follow your advise.
Just watch them, probably not much water is required. In fact, you also should not leave A. thaliana under regular conditions in 1-2 cm water. A.thaliana does not like such wet conditions, keep them moist during germination and very early seddling growth, but later the soil should be even allowed to dry somewhat. Too much water generates hypoxia and the risk for contamination with flies or fungi is strongly enhanced.

According to this link (see below), although A. lyrata and A. thaliana are fairly similar, their genome sizes are different. Lyrata is also an 'outcrossing' diploid species according to that link. How will you produce them? using insects as pollinators as for other species?
