Hello,

How often do you decline invitations to write a review of a manuscript for a journal?

I've received quite a few review invitations lately, especially from journals I publish in myself. From time to time I decline invitations, especially if they are too far away from my subject area. In principle, I like to write reviews; as a researcher, you are then forced to deal with a paper in depth and work out exactly what is strong and weak about it. As an author, I am also dependent on others being willing to write reviews. At the same time, however, a review usually takes quite a long time to complete, in which you don't get to do all the other things that need to be done, so that the question arises as to how many reviews you should actually expect of yourself.

What do you think? How many reviews do you normally write and according to which principle - apart from content - do you reject requests?
