Suppose , a pathological condition affects spleen, liver, bone marrow and finally the skin. How can I use a Nanomaterial to specifically target the spleen or bone marrow to prevent the parasite transition to the skin?
What I have done for that is to find a specific protein or receptor on the surface of the organ or tissue and attach a recognition molecule on the nanoparticle carrying the drug. This is easy to do through conjugation on the surface of the nanoparticle.

In every diseased tissue, specific molecules are expressed and the concentration of some factors increase (depending on the tissue type and pathological condition). You can target these molecules or factors. Another solution to modify the surface of your particle with antibody against antigens expressed in the target tissue. Physical forces such as magnetic field are also useful in case your formulation contain a magnetic moiety.
