How much will Official Statistics be degraded in the United States?  I have seen or been shown a couple of other papers on alarms that have been raised, perhaps mainly regarding health statistics, but also education statistics. This newspaper opinion piece sums up some worries regarding economic statistics:  Catherine Rampell, the Washington Post, "First thing we do, let’s fire all the statisticians":  https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/07/10/trump-federal-data-census-bls-trade/ This is fairly short. It was posted earlier on ASA Connect by another member of the American Statistical Association (ASA), where I saw it. It notes that a lack of resources endangers or eliminates the collection of vital economic data. Please read it and state your concerns, remembering that current US Federal Government employees cannot say anything.

Note that expertise is needed for this function. Good data quality in the data collection is important, as well as sampling methodology expertise, subject matter expertise, computer science, and all this entails. A lack of resources can be very serious. I know that the norm in the US Federal statistical agencies is to provide the best information available, with great integrity. It is sad to see this disrupted with staffing shortages. Thank you.
