I diluted 1 gram of chloroplatinic acid (H2PtCl6) in 1000 mL water. 1 g of H2PtCl6 contain 40% of platinum. Hence, can someone explained/ shows to me how to calculate on how much volume of H2PtCl6 needed in order to obtain specific percentage of Pt? I really appreciate if someone can answer my question. Nadiah Natar, 1 g of H2PtCl6 contains about 0.48 g of platinum. A 0.15 wt% solution is one where 100 g of solution will contain 0.15 g of platinum. Thus, for there to be 0.48 g of platinum, the mass of the solution must be (0.48/0.15)100 = 320 g. Therefore, 319 g of water should be added to 1 g of H2PtCl6. However, if you want to use 1000 g of water then 3.13 g of acid must be added.
Dilute 0.00375 g = 3.75mg of chloroplatinic acid in 1000 ml of water , you will get 0.15% of platinum.
Thank you Mirosław Grzesik for the explanation. Actually I only have 1 g solid H2PtCl6 which then I dissolved into 1L water to produce 1000 ppm of stock solution. From this 1000 ppm H2PtCl6 stock solution, I have troubled to calculate how much mL of H2PtCl6 should I take in order to obtain specific weight percentage of Pt. For example, I need 0.15 wt.% Pt in the experiment, but how much mL of H2PtCl6 from stock solution is equivalent to 0.15 wt.% Pt?
