Hello, in our research group we use AFBR to produce hydrogen and methane from different substrates (vinasse, sugarcane juice, sucrose, glycerol ..) and the application of 10%v/v inoculum as been satisfactory.

According to my experience commonly 10 %vol/vol inoculum is sufficient. If biofilm formation is a problem, try several day operation with total recycle of effleunt with substrate amendment.

As Prof Khaled says 10-12% (v/v) inoculum should be sufficient for the process. In addition to that, you may consider the suggestion of recycling given by Vit.
