I want to know how much plagiarism (%) is acceptable for publishing a research paper or report or thesis?
If I will use write up for my report from my already published paper then will it be come under plagiarism?
What are the general acceptable parameters used for plagiarism?
for example, if my report showing 50% Plagiarism and out of 50%, 40% is from my published paper, will it come under plagiarism?
Just to be clear, no plagarism is acceptable. None. Make sure that you give credit to those people who said it first. Many reputable journals are now checking papers for plagerism. There are several cases - just use Google to check - where researchers have been caught. There is one that I just now don't find - of a famous case of a mathematician who has "borrowed" many papers on discrete math.

I have a report and it showing 35% plagiarism. Out of this 35, 8% is from my published paper. and rest is from other papers even less than 1% from each paper that I used as reference and referred in text and in reference section. Does it still comes under plagiarism as I have given all the references (published papers and web links)?

I agree with you all. The percentage is however often a bit misleading and not the most important. You can get % for using the same references in the reference list or similar. So you need to check the hits you get and see if they are relevant. Self-plagiarism is also not allowed. That is why many conferences do not publish proper proceedings any more. Then the papers are not accessible and thus possible to submit to journals.
Obliviously the answer is Zero. One can maintain Zero tolerance percentage whether it is journal article or doctoral study thesis if the writers have followed accuracy of citation as per the standards.
It depends on the journal, some allow 15% and some 25% similarity.

If you take ideas of others, rephrase them and point to their origin in footnotes. If you fail to rephrase them because the original is just that good, quote them and point to their origin in footnotes.
If you were to go the way of plagiarism, no matter whether 50%, 40%, 30%, 20%, 10% or 5% even, you'd take ideas of others and don't point to their origin, you'd copy other people's text without pointing to their original creator. By doing so you'd claim to be the creator, you'd claim to have come up with the ideas all by yourself. And we both know that this is not true. That would be wrong, that would be plagiarism, that would be stealing! You'd take the intellectual work of others and present it as your own.
If you snatched an apple from a store it would be just as much of stealing as taking the whole box. In one case you have stolen less in the other case you had stolen more, but it would still be theft. Its pretty much the same for plagiarism.
I dare all the people who wrote that no % of plagiarism is valid to please share the % of plagiarism in their thesis or articles.
THERE WILL ALWAYS BE CERTAIN PERCENTAGE OF IT and more important is that this is also regulated and valid in many cases as long as it does not go over 15 to 25% depending on the journal because it results that you are not so smart to create new phrases at this point in the history of research.
So please, try to answer properly and if you try to advice someone PLEASE do it in the best way possible.You will always have a certain % of plagiarism and will be ok as long as you dont copy and paste everything you see. Of course 50% is way too much.
