There are interests on changing moratorium status of adolescents to achieved status, or changing diffusion status to moratorium. How we can help adolescents to develop sooner?
This a good questions but it depends on the kind of program, purpose of the program and saliency of the program - for examples - getting high-school girls(e.g. with self-esteem problems) to be part of a fashion show (as an intervention program to develop and build their self-esteem) through a semester at school is very likely to influence their identity - in general - for better we hope - but this would be different for different cases and cohorts - for example in a Forensic context intervention programs are less likely to have an impact on identity development but then again we need to conceptualise "identity development" as program time and duration are not as salient as other factors - peer group, media, parenting, socio-cultural issues - but the other question we need to ask is - why are we wanting to address identity development through intervention program - what kind of an intervention program? and for who?
The four aspects of Marcia in terms of: Foreclosure, Identity Diffusion, Moratorium, and Identity Achievement - need to be explored in terms of co-realities in adolescents - in the sense that some might have foreclosure in some aspect be ambivalent in other areas - so we must be able to argue what context of moratorium - as this is a stage regarded to be in the midst of a crisis - where a commitment may be absent or not fully utilized but this does not mean to that that it is not there - as they are very anxious in having to pick and choose and make a decision as they are in crisis...so we must look at this in terms of crisis and the aspect of identity that they are struggling with
