As a budding researcher trying to establish a career in academics, I am curious to know about the recruitment process in universities so that I can prepare accordingly.

How much do the senior academics contribute to the recruitment of faculty in their departments?  Do they have any say in the recruitment process? Or, they just interview whoever the recruitment team selects?

More often than not, the recruitment teams consist of people with management degrees who have no knowledge of technical subjects to which they recruit. How do senior faculty members ensure that they get quality members into their group?

If the initial selection is solely done by the recruitment team, how does it judge without having technical knowledge? Is quantity, number of papers published, the sole criterion on which a candidate is selected?

If there is any other information that might help me and others like me please post.
