the drive towards objectivity and fairness for exams is making the exam process that involves candidate and examiner interaction almost redundant. As educationalists purify and try to perfect the process, my fear is that we gain in one aspect, but lose in others as the scope for extracting candidate knowledge is hugely diminished. What are peope’s thoughts on this please.
Extracting the candidate's knowledge is more dependent on the questioning of the extractor than the candidate.
Let's first define 'exams' as a learning evaluation scheme whereby learners are required to respond to a set of stimulus material within an allocated amount of time and then assigned a score based on the proximity/affinity/relatedness of their response to a pre-determined idealized response model. The true question, in my mind, then is 'Should there be exams at all?'
