I am looking for values comparing the yields (potential and or average), net primary production, amount of residues for the main crops over the world,
... anything related to the amount of organic matter or carbon fixed and left by the crops.
I have not yet found such a table/summary.
It would be very interesting to compare each crop for its food or fiber production potential (with the duration of the cultivation as well).
For example, at harvest, average total dry biomass of cotton is about A t/ha, and yield B t/ha. Its take about C months to produce cotton.
D t/ha of residues are left abouve ground after harvest. The shoot root:root ratio of cotton is E.
Even better if it is associated by nutrients exported at harvest, and the average amounts of water required for certain production levels.
Any clue where to find such a compilation of data.
It would be very useful for studies related to soil carbon management.

Some of the data might be there at a global scale.
I assume that the root:shoot ratio information will be quite difficult to obtain accurately. Maybe some of the data could be taken from this root database: https://roots.ornl.gov/.

Thank you arising the valid discussion. In my view, the potential yield could be biomass yield obtained in all the crops. For individual crop wise data, you can compute the data based on individual crop Harvest index (economic yield/biological yield). Likely you can get biomass yield of respective crops over periods and also area wise. Carbon material can be find out based on these biomass yield.

I have had a look at the FAO database before, but I can only find information on the food production.
I also looked at Agreste, but again it seems the only data available is on yields.
It kind of work for fodder crops, or when the entire plant is harvested.
It for example studied in biomass energy studies, which interested in the whole plant and the allocation of matter to each parts.
I'll keep searching and share my findings here!

biomass production is different for different crops. likewise maize OPV produced 9000 to 12000 while hybrid produced upto 18000 kg/ha-1.
the same phenomena is also for other crops.
I am looking for potential/approximate values for the dry mass of the orgnaic matter produced by crops.
What is the dry weight of the whole plant at harvest? on a hectare basis.
For example:
X tons of dry weight per hectare produced by the crop in total,
including Y tons of harvested product,
leaving X-Y tons of biomass/residues in the field.
It is likely that crop specialists have this information for each of their own specialty...
